Our Lifeimpact Ministries LTD Community
On December 15, 2017, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse concluded a comprehensive five-year inquiry, presenting its final report to the Governor-General. This report addressed institutional responses to child sexual abuse and related issues. Our Lifeimpact Ministries LTD Community acknowledges the release of the final report and is committed to thoroughly reviewing the Commission’s findings and recommendations. We will consider how our Union can respond effectively, aligning with our enduring commitment to fostering a robust culture of safety for children and other vulnerable individuals within all our churches and agencies.
Historical Instances of Sexual Abuse.
We acknowledge that each survivor’s experience of violence and harm is unique, requiring a distinctive and compassionate response from all of us. We believe in the significance of allowing individuals to share their stories and ensuring they are heard. The potential for a healing journey exists when wrongs are acknowledged, survivors are acknowledged, and their courage is honored. The guiding principles that will shape our response to historical sexual abuse include:
- Acting with compassion.
- Approaching with a non-judgmental attitude and a commitment to active listening.
- Prioritizing the survivor’s safety and the safety of others as our foremost concern.
- Reporting incidents to the appropriate authorities.
- Seeking guidance from our Baptist Union and consulting other professionals as necessary.
- Gaining insights and learning from each person’s unique story.
- Emphasizing healing for everyone involved and providing pastoral care.
- Leveraging the resources of our faith to facilitate the process.
- Offering unwavering support to aid individuals on their journey.
